Project Name: G Boutiques, St. James, NY
Area: 5,000 SF
The client wished to create a small business experience suited for entrepreneurs in health, beauty and well-being. This type of business is evoked in the architecture and design of the space.
The organizing concept was cellular, with individual rentable workspaces configured as pods within a larger ‘shed’ of open space. A series of linear ribs guide clientele through the space via open circulation corridors. The ribs evoke imagery of functions associated with health and well-being, such fingers massaging the skin, and combs through one’s hair. The ribs also serve to conceal ductwork and other services.
Flexible walls allow workspaces to be configured smaller, or larger, or combined together into larger units. A series of large skylights bring in natural light. Shared spaces include a break room, toilets, and washing/drying machines. Finish materials include polished concrete floors, finished wood plank walls, and porcelain tiles.
