Project Name: Aerea Salon New York, NY
Area: 1,950 SF
This hair and beauty salon is located in a long, narrow, rectilinear space. The program includes an entry/waiting area, reception, changing areas, and stations for hair cutting, washing, and coloring.
In order to create flexibility in the space, removable custom work stations were designed for each stylist. When the stations are shifted or removed, the space accommodates gallery, performance, and event functions.
The clientele is guided through the salon by a series of forms, made of walls and movable curtains, which widen and compress the space. The forms mimic the movement of strands of hair, gently waving and curling. White surfaces, light wood and metallic fabric lend a clean, light feeling.
